On December 9, 2022, Terra spoke to the Wisconsin City/County Management Association at their 5th Annual WCMA Women’s Leadership Seminar at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau, Wisconsin.
The energy of the group was infectious! After being canceled in 2020, Terra was eager to be in the room with these leaders finally.
Terra talked about how the way we work and communicate is ever-changing. Generational differences, economic conditions, and talent competition impact how we express our ideas and feelings professionally.
The group discussed if there is a best way to communicate at work. Terra’s opening three-minute conversation activity was a listening exercise in disguise. Participants made unexpected connections. Laughs were heard, and contact information was exchanged.
The exciting thing about having folks with similar job duties from different municipalities all in the same room validated that attendees weren’t alone in their challenges.
We learned how to handle challenging workplace issues from the most experienced voices. We worked on our collaboration and conflict management skills, feedback, and assertiveness.
