If you aren’t already on GoodReads, consider checking it out. Here’s why this network is one of my favorites.
(1.) Community, but Not Another Social Network
I was thinking about marketing and promoting my books, and debated starting another social media presence but wasn’t keen on the idea. Then I thought about how I could better utilize a network I already was a part of but wasn’t using. Checking my list, I came across GoodReads, and it was the perfect fit! This place was made for readers and writers!
(2.) Giveaways
If you’re not familiar with GoodReads Giveaways, allow me to fill you in. If you need something to do on boring conference calls, this is it. Go to goodreads.com, sign up, then click Browse on the menu, then click Giveaways. Enter for a chance to win print and ebooks that interest you. You’re welcome.
(3.) Recommendations
Are you looking for something to read? Don’t ask your Facebook friends. I mean, c’mon, most of them don’t read books. The few who do are on GoodReads. Connect with people you know, authors, or your book twin who has shelved your favorites. GoodReads will suggest books it thinks you’ll like, or you can ask the community to make suggestions by genre. Never get stuck in a book hole again!
(4.) Notes, Highlights, and Quotes
I was anti-e-reader until I discovered how GoodReads saves your notes, quotes, and highlights. My overloaded bookshelves are sighing with relief. My favorites don’t wonder if I’ll rehome them to make room for more titles on my TBR list. (I still have plenty of physical books and enjoy picking up more, but ebooks are easy to discard, and they save space.)
(5.) Momentum and Accountability
If your resolutions include reading more books, GoodReads is the place for you. GoodReads shares your book reading progress and tallies how many you’ve read per year; that incites a little competition, encouraging you to read more. When your community is waiting for your review and wondering what you thought, you keep reading. GoodReads also syncs with your Amazon account and Kindle, making it easy to add books you’ve already purchased and read. If you have Amazon Prime, be sure to checkout Prime Reading. You may have free books there that you aren’t yet taking advantage of.
Be sure to follow me on GoodReads, and here’s to happy reading in 2021 and beyond!
