About the Session
We all want to enjoy our work, serve our communities fully, and communicate clearly. Too often, though, stress, deadlines, and differing communication styles lead to misunderstandings, tension, and even conflict. So, how do we express our ideas and feelings in the best way at work?
In this activity-packed session, we’ll start from the beginning. We’ll review communication basics: listening and being objective when speaking. Then, we’ll practice nonverbals and share techniques to communicate with diverse audiences. We’ll learn how to fully engage with our coworkers, develop our powers of persuasion, and build relationships.
We’ll cover ever-changing communication expectations and show how the systems/relationships we’re in affect the meaning of our words. Plus, we’ll learn how to inspire and motivate the people around us without formal authority or power.
What about those challenging situations at work? How do you ask someone to change their behavior? We’ll practice conflict and accountability skills that apply in the real world. By the end of this session, you’ll be able to identify different communication styles, flex your style for various situations, and build more productive working relationships.
